Outside of the bargaining table, Oregon AFSCME members are major stakeholders in Oregon legislative policy. Policies made at the local, state, and national level directly impact our working conditions, wages, benefits, and our rights as employees. Therefore, it’s essential that we elect pro-worker candidates, and hold them accountable once they’re in office.

Our Wins Include…
Safer Workplaces
Last legislative session, we passed House Bill 4069, which created stronger safety-plan requirements for behavioral health workers. We introduced this bill as a response to ourUnsafe on the Job report, where over 500 AFSCME members filled out a survey about their jobs and concerning workplace issues.
Protecting Public Jobs
We took action, testified, and succeeded in passing Senate Bill 1507, which helped preserve $311.6 million for Oregon public services and helped protect state jobs.
Expanding Worker’s Rights
Through member action and lobby day, we fought hard and helped pass House Bill 4179, which created a path for OHSU Knight Cancer Institute workers to be covered by a union contract.
