Political Action Committees

Our success relies on the activism and advocacy of Oregon AFSCME members like you. Oregon AFSCME participates in two Political Action Committees (PACs), a federal PAC called PEOPLE (Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality) and our Oregon-specific small donor PAC, AFSCME Values in Practice (AVIP). Every single penny of your contribution goes directly toward electing candidates at the local, state, and federal levels who are committed to advancing the rights and welfare of AFSCME members.

Political advocacy is an integral part of protecting and promoting workers' rights, and a big piece of that is making sure that we are represented by elected officials who support and uplift our rights.

But, elections cost money. In order to elect pro-labor candidates at the local, state, and federal level, we need to invest in candidates who have proven their support for workers.

How do we do it?

AFSCME Values in Practice (AVIP) is our 100% Oregon-focused Political Action Committee created to fight back against the influence of corporate special interests. With AVIP, we’re able to further support local and state candidates, but it also allows us more flexibility to help out with things like school board races and local bonds and levies that affect Oregon AFSCME members and the communities we serve.

AFSCME PEOPLE - Federal PAC

Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality (PEOPLE) is a federal PAC, and the vehicle for AFSCME members to make our voices heard in the electoral arena, policy debates and legislative deliberations at the federal level. Contributions to PEOPLE are used to support local, state, and federal candidates across the nation who support and advocate for the issues important to workers and their families.

PAC FAQs

  • NO! Union dues do not go towards political campaigns. Your dues are used for the everyday operation of the union, including contract negotiations, member services, and administrative costs. Contributions to the PACs are completely voluntary and separate from your dues. You choose how much to donate, when to donate, and if you wish to donate at all.

  • Your donor PAC contributions are completely voluntary. You can choose to donate to AVIP, PEOPLE, both, or neither and still be an Oregon AFSCME member!

  • YES! By contributing to PEOPLE and AVIP, you don't just fund campaigns — you also participate in a democratic process. Your voice, your vote, and your dollars help determine which candidates our union supports. It's democracy in action, and it’s important!

By supporting our PACs, you are making a statement about the kind of future you want to see — a future where workers' rights are respected and protected. Thank you for considering donating to our PAC and being an active participant in shaping this future.
